Transversal Skills In Time Of Covid
News
31/10/2021
Recent years have brought significant changes in the labour market, and due to the SARS-COV-2 coronavirus pandemic some of the changes have been accelerated. March 2020 started a time of dynamic changes completely different than before, bringing surprising problems and solutions that the labor market did not expect.
The role of developing and using basic, transversal and professional skills, which are of key importance for Poland’s economic prosperity and social cohesion, is underlined by the Integrated Skills Strategy 2030.1 The need to create a framework for a skills policy – understood as a coherent approach by all sectors involved in skills development, thus better suited to current and anticipated social and market needs – has been highlighted in many documents of strategic importance, such as the Responsible Development Strategy for 2020 (with a perspective until 2030) and lifelong learning perspective.

TRANSVERSAL SKILLS
IN TIME OF COVID
Summary
The project Transversal skills in time of COVID is inspired by two observations, which are also proven by most European documents based on vocational and training education. According to the Social Capital Development Strategy of 2020th, social and personal competences are important for the development of social capital nowadays. In addition to acquiring knowledge and skills, they constitute the basis for preparing a young people for proper functioning in social life. Especially in current and rapidly changing profile of the labor market.
Secondly, the global economic slowdown which we are observing at the moment, especially the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic posed long-term challenges due the world. This unique situation require solutions at the level of building professional competences and promoting innovative vocational education and training practices nowadays, what is the most important and especially promoted in the digital age. The education and training system should become more open and flexible in terms of the changes and emerging needs of citizens, as well as the labor market and society as a whole system.
In the project, Partners from Poland (as the Leader), Cyprus and Ireland (as the Partners) will IDENTIFY AND DESCRIBE social and personal competences for the economic and administrative sector in the era of COVID-19. What is important the project frame will take under consideration the applicable qualifications framework in the countries of the project partners and the EQF. The analysis will show how and in which way the competency gaps in the social and personal competences area have changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. On the basis of the developed competences, the Partners will DEVELOP THE MULTIMEDIA EDUCATIONAL QUIDE for the teachers and students, which will be available in the electronical applications as well.
The QUIDE will constitute an innovation on the market with vocational and training education field and area of soft skills which are so important nowadays. The quide will provide significant support in building the social and personal competences in the economic and administrative industry and also through DEVELOPING IMPLEMENTATION RECOMMENDATIONS FOR OTHER SECTORS, they will have a wide professional application in related industries and not only.
The advantage of the developed educational materials will be close connected with the description of the social and personal competences and self-assessment questionnaires. This will give young people the opportunity to diagnose their knowledge, learn about their skills, systematize them and learn what they already know and what they still need to learn. This will allow to select only those topics that are really needed.
Another innovation will be the ability to use the materials independently, without the need for students to participate in the classes – the STUDENT’S GUIDE will be helpful here. Nevertheless, taking into account that young people need a mentor in the learning process, the main role is to prepare a TEACHER’S GUIDE, which will show how teachers can support the student’s remote work process in developing the social and personal competences.
The guide will be a signpost on how to use new tools and resources online with the student in the process of the social and personal competences development system. An important element enhancing the innovativeness of materials will be their comprehensiveness. Both teachers educating in professions, like educators, trainers, students educating in economical- administrative sectors will be able to use them.
The dissemination of the project’s results will play a crucial role in achieving the project’s goals in all dimensions from local to European cases. The Partners of the project, in very careful way will prepare the strategy of disseminating the results. Thanks to that it will correspond adequately and directly to the intended activities and ensures appropriate reach to target groups.
The emphasis will be set on the promotion of developed solutions in vocational schools, vocational training institutions, continuing education centers, institutions dealing with vocational and training education. The project assumes the development of universal results, at least on a European scale.
